Menadžment proizvodnih kompanija kao dinamičan i složen proces, usmeren je pre svega ka efikasnom i efektivnom korišćenju ograničenih resursa radi realizacije postavljenih ciljeva. Na taj način uspešna konkurentska pozicija kompanija uslovljena je adekvatnim i sposobnim menadžmentom koji prati promene u okruženju, koje se manifestuju kao mogućnosti i rizici za kompanijiu.
U savremenim uslovima poslovanja, kao oblast sa izuzetno velikim potencijalom za stvaranje povoljne konkurentske pozicije jeste logistika, odnosno lanci snabdevanja, kao težnja poslovnih subjekata da integrišu svoje poslovne aktivnosti i prošire njihov uticaj sve do potrošača. Ovakav otvoreni sistem utiče na proces stvaranja vrednosti i nudi mnogo veće potencijale za ostvarivanje profita.
